Please read our guide on how to wear a mask and what other precautions you can take.
What can you do?
The most important thing is to wear your mask correctly.
When in the presence of other people, always wear a mask covering your nose and mouth!
You have to wear a mask on public transport, in waiting rooms, stores, shops and malls, museums, cinemas, libraries, theaters, offices, post offices and any other places providing customer service. Not wearing a mask correctly or not wearing a mask at all at any of these places is a misdemeanor, which can carry a fine of up to 150.000 HUF for the individual and 1 million HUF for the organization/operator where the misdemeanor happens. Not wearing a mask correctly (e.g. not covering your nose) is also a misdemeanor.
You can get a 8000 HUF fine for not wearing a mask on public transportation and you can be asked to leave the vehicle. Not wearing a mask properly, that is not covering your nose or mouth also breaks the rules.
How to wear your mask during the pandemic?
When someone has the coronavirus, they infect others for days without knowing about it. If two people talk to each other without a mask and one of them is already infected, the chance to infect the other person is 90%. If both of them wear a mask, the chance of contracting the virus is only 1.5%.
