Catchinng stray cats in Százados quarter. Location: Százados negyed Százados út 12-14. Pitypang kinder garten. Date: from mid june to mid october

The Municipality of Józsefváros will organise cat catching from mid-June to mid-October in the Pitypang Kindergarten at Százados utca 12-14.

The trapping will be carried out by Macskavilág Foundation, with whom the Municipality has signed a contract.

The growing population of stray cats is causing a serious challenge for our district, as they are constantly increasing in numbers in apartment buildings and other properties due to over-breeding, which is harmful for many reasons including the health of these animals.

The main goal of this project is to trap cats living on the streets or in common areas of apartment blocks. Once trapped, the cats receive veterinary treatment and neutering with the help of Macskavilág Foundation, and are then adopted – if they prove healthy – or returned to their original habitat.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We ask all pet owners living in the vicinity of the kindergarten to pay particular attention to keep their cats in their cattery at this time, because:

  • your cat may also be picked and transported and in this case, if the animal is not individually tagged (chipped) there is no way to return the pet to its keeper
  • the costs of capture and handling must be borne by the keeper
  • the keeper may be prosecuted and sanctioned for breaching animal welfare legislation.

The Foundation will specifically use cat traps that do not cause any harm to the cats, as animal welfare is a top priority in the whole process.

These traps will also be completely harmless to the children in Pitypang Kindergarten and will not interfere with the nursery’s activities.
