Be a Part of the Józsefváros Youth Council (JIT)!

Last updated: (Létrehozva: 2025.10.09.)

The Municipality of Józsefváros would like to establish a team of young people that operates continuously, where children and youth from the district can represent their own opinions on matters concerning the district. This team could help ensure that the perspectives and ideas of young people reach the Municipality of Józsefváros.

What is the council doing?

If you join the council, you’ll get to know how local governance works — from inside and out.

You’ll meet local decision-makers and municipal professionals who work to keep our streets clean and safe, ensure that district residents can enjoy many events, and make sure that kindergartens, medical clinics, and community spaces function properly.

The council has its own budget, and its members can decide how to use it.

This funding can be used to organize events, run communication campaigns, or launch other initiatives that are valuable for young people. The work of the Council is supported by the Office of Community Participation.

The 15–20 young people participating in the council will be able to build a real community,

one that is also connected to similar institutions in Budapest and other districts (such as the capital, District VI, and District XIII), as well as to civil organizations working with youth.

We’ll keep the best practices from last year and prepare tasty snacks, fun games, and plenty of creativity for you. You’ll be able to take part in trainings to help you represent young people’s perspectives as equals — even face-to-face with elected decision-makers.

In the long term, our clear goal is for you to decide how each session is run and to shape the rules of the council yourselves.

We invite you to work with us!

Who can participate in the Józsefváros Youth Council?

Any young person who is at least 14 but not yet 20 years old, and who lives in Józsefváros or goes to school in Józsefváros and spends their free time here, can participate.

Who might find the Józsefváros Youth Council exciting or interesting?

  • Anyone who often feels that their voice is not heard.
  • Anyone who wants to be part of a community of young people, spending time with others who have similar or different interests, debating, and thinking together.
  • Anyone eager to learn about negotiation and argumentation techniques, as well as organizing events, campaigns, and communication efforts on issues important to young people.
  • Anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how government decision-making works, its processes, and the people responsible.
  • Anyone who would like to represent Józsefváros in the Capital City Student Assembly, working alongside students from other districts.
  • Anyone who cares about making sure young people’s voices are heard by district and city-level decision-makers.

How does a year of the council looks like?

In 2024, the Józsefváros Children and Youth Forum was held as part of the JÓKER child participation program.

Armed with the experiences from the test year, the Office of Community Participation will establish the Józsefváros Youth Council.

During the 2025/26 school year, the council will meet seven times. The meetings will take place either at the Józsefváros Mayor’s Office (Baross utca 63-67) or in other community spaces in Józsefváros (for example, Kesztyűgyár, H13).

For meetings held during school hours, council members will be excused from classes.

The dates of the individual council meetings (subject to change) are as follows.

  1. November 25, Tuesday — 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM
  2. December 13, Saturday — 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  3. January 28, Wednesday — 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  4. February 18, Wednesday — 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  5. March 24, Saturday — 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  6. April 23, Thursday — 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  7. May 22, Saturday — 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Participants of the Youth Council will receive a reward at the end of the council year in the form of a gift voucher.

How are the members of the Youth Council selected?

When selecting members, we strive to ensure that the composition of the council reflects the diversity of Józsefváros as much as possible.
