Parvovirus at II. János Pál Pápa tér

Tutivet Veterinary Clinic has published important information for dog owners regarding II. János Pál Pápa tér.

According to the veterinary clinic, a dog confirmed to be infected with parvovirus had been at II. János Pál Pápa tér. Based on the owner’s statement, the dog was regularly walked only in this area, so it is highly likely that the infection was contracted there.

Tutivet asks dog owners to avoid walking their dogs at II. János Pál Pápa tér for the time being, if possible.

Based on veterinary recommendations, dog owners can reduce the risk of infection by taking the following precautions:

  • check their dog’s vaccination record and, in consultation with a veterinarian, ensure that any missing vaccinations are administered as soon as possible;
  • make a particular effort to prevent dogs from coming into contact with dog faeces;
  • after walks, wipe the dog’s paws as well as the areas around the mouth, nose and rear with disinfectant wipes (for example, CLX wipes containing chlorhexidine).

Dog owners are advised to watch closely for symptoms that may indicate a parvovirus infection, such as severe lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea (which may be bloody), and fever. If a dog shows any of these symptoms, owners should contact their veterinarian immediately. The disease is highly contagious, so it is always recommended to consult the veterinarian before visiting the clinic, as isolation may not be possible in every practice.

The clinic also draws attention to the fact that parvovirus has several variants, and not all vaccines provide protection against all types.
