A key objective of the Józsefvárosi Önkormányzat’s urban development strategy is to expand and improve the quality of green spaces in the district. In the previous phase of the street tree planting program, we planted 145 trees in Józsefváros.
In the next phase, we are planning to plant nearly 100 trees across eight streets. Where technical conditions allow, we would also like to create perennial-planted beds around the trees.
As part of the planning process, we invite residents of Józsefváros to share their opinions on the plans by March 15, 2026, at the following link: jozsefvaros.hu/go/utcafasitas
In 2025, RÉV8 conducted a preliminary assessment to identify locations in Józsefváros where trees could be planted without relocating underground utilities. The assessment was based on professional experience from previous tree plantings, expertise regarding the relationship between utilities and trees, and the publicly available e-utility map, which primarily provides indicative data on the location of underground utilities.
Following this preliminary survey, Via Flexima Kft., commissioned by the Municipality, prepared the concept designs for Phase III of the street tree planting program.

Vas utca – section between Rákóczi út and Stáhly utca
There is currently no green space along the affected section. Based on the tree-planting feasibility study, up to 12 trees can be planted on the even-numbered side of the street, where cars currently park on the sidewalk. Larger, continuous green areas could also be created around the trees. This would provide better living conditions for the trees and contribute to improving the local microclimate.
Improving pedestrian conditions was a key consideration during the design process: the clear sidewalk width on the even-numbered side will increase, making pedestrian traffic more comfortable and safer in the section currently hindered by parked cars. Bicycle racks will be relocated, while restaurant terraces will remain.
By converting part of the existing 36 parking spaces and eliminating sidewalk parking on the even-numbered side, a more pedestrian-friendly public space complemented by green areas will be created. On the odd-numbered side, 15 parking spaces will remain.

Stáhly utca – section between Vas utca and Somogyi Béla utca
In addition to retaining the existing 10 trees in the central section of the street, we plan to plant 13 additional trees, contributing to the expansion of green space and improving the environmental quality of the street.
As a result of the development, 50 of the current 58 parking spaces will remain available.

Víg utca – section between Bérkocsis utca and Vásár utca
Preliminary assessments show that due to the location of underground utilities, trees can only be planted on the odd-numbered side, with a total of 6 trees. To enable this, the roadway will be shifted toward the even-numbered side. The current six parking spaces on the even-numbered side will be removed, while two parking spaces will be created between the trees on the odd-numbered side.
This will result in a safer, more orderly, and greener streetscape.

Bérkocsis utca – section between Tolnai Lajos utca and Auróra utca
In Bérkocsis utca, the location of underground utilities makes tree planting particularly difficult. Without relocating utilities, trees can only be planted between Tolnai Lajos utca and Auróra utca.
As a result of the planned planting of nine trees, the number of parking spaces along this section of Bérkocsis Street will decrease from 52 to 47.

Auróra utca – section between Népszínház utca and Déri Miksa utca
We plan to plant 15 trees along this section, contributing to the expansion of green spaces and improving environmental comfort.
As a result of the development, 35 of the current 43 parking spaces will remain. To ensure the long-term maintenance of the trees, the plan also includes the installation of an irrigation network, achieved by extending the existing irrigation system on Déri Miksa utca.

Szigetvári utca
According to the plans, 11 trees will be planted along this section. The development requires the conversion of 11 parking spaces. The micro-park in front of the Biztos Kezdet Children’s House will not be affected.

Lósy Imre utca – Lippa utca
In these two streets—apart from the park-like green area of Molnár Ferenc tér—there is currently one tree located at the intersection of Lósy Imre utca and Lippa utca. This would be supplemented with 20 additional trees.
Perennial-planted beds would be established around the trees, increasing the proportion of green space. The development requires the conversion of 15 parking spaces.

Visi Imre utca
According to the plans, 11 trees will be planted along this section. The project involves converting 8 parking spaces, while significantly improving the quality and livability of the street’s green spaces.
Unfortunately, due to the location of underground utilities, it is not possible to create tree pits on the section of the street near Orczy út.
