The Municipality of Józsefváros is upgrading public lighting on several streets, including Lósy Imre utca, based on one of the winning ideas from the 2023 Participatory Budget. The aim of the development is to provide safer, more even and more energy-efficient lighting for residents and pedestrians.
In the first quarter of 2026, public lighting upgrades will take place at four locations in the district: Lósy Imre utca, Füvészkert utca, Dugonics utca, and Teleki tér. The project on Lósy Imre utca will be the first to begin, with work starting on February 12, 2026.
Currently, the outdated light fixtures and the wide spacing of lighting points on Lósy Imre utca do not meet current standards. During the project, a new public lighting network with tall masts will be installed, increasing both the level and uniformity of lighting while also improving energy efficiency.
Work to be carried out includes:
- removal of 4 traditional suspended light fixtures,
- removal of a reinforced 9-metre galvanised pole,
- removal of 156 metres of aluminium cable,
- installation of 9 new lighting masts with associated cabling.
Schedule:
- February 12–13, 2026: excavation and construction of concrete foundations,
- February 14: installation of lighting poles,
- from February 16: staged cable laying and surface reinstatement,
- February 24–26: power connections, dismantling of old fixtures, connection of new poles, and testing.
During construction, car traffic will continue on the road; however, work will take place in the parking lane and on the pavement, therefore road users are asked to follow temporary traffic signs.
This development will make another public space in Józsefváros safer and more modern, reflecting residents’ suggestions and votes.
