The greening of Magdolna utca between Dankó utca and Dobozi utca in 2023 was the winning idea of the Józsefváros Participatory Budget.
The Municipality assigned the RÉV8 team to design the greening of the street. At the end of November, we placed 11 planters along the road section, where we’ll be planting hawthorn trees and perennial plants.
First, we considered the options for the placement of green spaces. It turned out that we could not plant trees in open ground because of the utilities running deep underground. The only way to do this would be to relocate the utilities, but this would cost more than the budget for the idea. We therefore chose planters with a water-retaining layer in which trees and perennials can be planted. Eleven planters will be placed in the street, in which we will plant dwarf hawthorn trees and perennial flowering plants. Next year, the trees will be ready to welcome spring and the street with pink flowers.
We have looked at how we can accommodate as many planters as possible without changing the number of parking spaces on the street, and we have also considered the need to keep the fire hydrant accessible and the space for public waste bins free. Planters will be placed on the sunnier side and at intersections. Autumn is the best time to plant ground-ball hawthorns and perennials.
The plants will help make the air cleaner and the street more shaded and cooler in the summer heat, where there is no green space. To see the plans visit https://rev8.hu/magdolna-zoldites/.
