On 26 May 2025, the tree planting in the section of József utca between József körút and Német utca will begin, and is expected to last until the end of June.
The project will improve the area around the much complained about section between József körút and Salétrom utca and will also make the junction of Rigó utca and Német utca safer for pedestrians and vehicles.

What works are planned?
In this section, we will start the construction of new trees as part of the Street Tree Planting Programme II, which will add 24 trees and more than 100 square metres of green space to the street.
The number of parking spaces on the stretch will not change due to the new tree positions, but their layout will be modified.
Compared to the original plans at the end of this website, there will be no green spaces at the junction of József utca and Német utca.
Furthermore, the traffic regime on József utca will be changed:
- it will not be possible to enter the street from József körút, but from József körút via Kis Salétrom and Salétrom utca,
- the Salétrom utca and József körút section of József utca will become one-way towards the körút and it will be possible to drive from József utca to Krúdy utca,
- and from József körút it will also be possible to turn into Krúdy utca.
How long will the works take from when?
The works will be carried out in three phases, i.e. the contractor will not work on the whole section at once.
It is important to note that the dates listed below are subject to weather conditions and possible construction obstacles. For example, if it rains, the exact dates of the phases may change and the completion of the works may be delayed.
Construction will ideally only take a few weeks, however, in order to minimise traffic disruption, the contractor will work in lanes, which requires caution for all residents and road users.

Stage 1: Closure of József street between József körút and Rigó street
Date: 26 May – 1 June 2025
In this stage, the contractor will construct the junction between József street and Salétrom street.
Stage 2: Closure of József street between József körút and Salétrom street
Date: 2-16 June 2025.
In this phase, the contractor will construct the roadblocks on József utca between József körút and Salétrom utca and will also make traffic engineering changes on Krúdy utca (e.g. from 20.20.20.2025 to 20.20.20.20). Phase 1: Closure of József utca between Rigó utca and Német utca

What traffic changes can be expected during construction?
Stage 1: 26 May – 1 June 2025
On the section of József utca between Rigó utca and József körút, drive-through traffic (and parking) will be prohibited.
During this short period, access to József utca from Salétrom utca, Rigó utca and József körút will be prohibited.
Driving from Krúdy utca into József utca will be suspended.
Salétrom street in the direction of József utcais a dead end from Kis Salétrom utca.
From Rigó utca, it is only possible to turn right on József utca in the direction of Német utca.
Stage 2: 2-16 June 2025
By this time, the intersection of József utca and Salétrom utca will be reopened to road traffic, but the section of József utca between Salétrom utca and József körút will remain closed, and parking will be prohibited.
From Salétrom utca, it will be possible to turn left onto József utca in the direction of Német utca.
From Rigó street, it will still only be possible to turn right onto József street in the direction of Német street.
From 13 June, it is forbidden to stop on József utca between Rigó utca and Német utca.
In this phase, the contractor will also carry out the modifications to Krúdy utca and the installation of the traffic lights.
As Krúdy utca will be accessible from József utca, the current left-turn lane of Krúdy utca will be reversed.
The right-turn only lane will become a right and left turn lane. This means that it will still be possible to turn left and right onto József körút. However, the possibility to enter József utca will be removed.
With the completion of Phase 2., a new traffic pattern will be established on the section of József utca between Rigó utca and József körút and on the József utca side of Krúdy utca, so please pay attention to this.
Stage 3: 16-30 June 2025
The stage tree will open the second section of József Street.
From both Rigó utca and Salétrom utca, it will be possible to turn onto József utca only in the direction of József körút.
At this time, the new traffic regime will be in force, so it will be possible to enter Krúdy utca from József utca, but it will not be possible to enter József utca from József körút or Krúdy utca.
During the construction of Phase 3., it will be prohibited to enter this section of József utca from Német utca and Rigó utca.
Stopping is prohibited on the section between Rigó utca and Német utca.
During the construction work, the traffic regime will also be changed on the section of József utca between Német utca and Őr utca: it will be one-way in the opposite direction to the current one, i.e. from Őr utca towards Német utca.

The tour will start at 18:00 and will last for about half an hour. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to talk and ask questions at the Customer Service Office (66-68 Baross Street) from 18:30.
