This year, we’re bringing to life one of the winning ideas from the Józsefváros Participatory Budget — with the active involvement of local residents.
A new community garden will be created on Magdolna Street, right behind Dankó Courtyard.
If you’d like to take part in shaping the garden — and perhaps garden there in the future — join us on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Lakótér.

Why a community garden?
In recent years, growing research has highlighted the positive health effects of gardening. Just 20–30 minutes a day can calm the nervous system and reduce stress and anxiety. Even simply spending time in a garden can lift your mood.
That’s why we envision a space in the Magdolna Quarter that’s not only for gardening, but also for rest and relaxation. A place where people can drop by to unwind, sit for a while, or connect with others.
We’re also planning larger shared beds for collective gardening, so the space won’t be limited to those who commit to a private plot. Even those who don’t have time for regular gardening will be able to take part and feel connected to the garden community.

Three mural designs have been created by Filip’s team for the wall of the newly built residential building next door. Now it’s up to the residents of Józsefváros to decide which design will be painted.

Community Design Process – Join Us!
Kick-Off Walk & Garden Visioning
March 18, 2026 – 5:30 PM (Wednesday)
Location: Magdolna utca 28 & Lakótér
We’ll visit the future garden site at 28 Magdolna Street and imagine how the space — including the mural wall — could come to life. Afterwards, we’ll walk back to Lakótér to discuss the design process and the key principles that will guide us.
Garden Layout Workshop
April 8, 2026- 5:30 PM (Wednesday)
Location: Lakótér (21 Kálvária tér)
Where should the planting beds go? Where does the morning sun hit? Should we have benches? Where will the tool shed be? At this session, our landscape architect will gather ideas and needs from participants and prepare the first draft design based on your input.
Building Our Garden Community

Every community needs shared guidelines. We’ll look at how other community gardens operate, discuss what matters most to us, and agree on the basic rules that will shape how our garden works.

Final Design Presentation & Celebration

We’ll reveal the final garden design and celebrate the completion of the planning process together.
The Józsefváros Municipality will launch a public call to select the garden’s operator.
