The Hungarian as a Foreign Language programme (MAMI-program) of the Kindergartens of Józsefváros has become nationally recognised!

The Minifesto award ceremony took place within the Second National Conference of the Early Childhood Platform (Koragyerekkori Platform II. Országos Konferenciája), on the 4th of June. The aim of the contest was to showcase effective, sustainable, and successful early childhood initiatives that provide genuine support to children and their families during the earliest stages of life.

Following the professional assessment, 33 projects were recognised and added to Minifesto’s online map, which serves as a collection of best practices. We are proud that our Hungarian as a Foreign Language programme was among the winners and has been added to the map along with a brief description:

About the Hungarian as a Foreign Language programme (MAMI – magyar mint idegen nyelv program):

For children whose native language is not Hungarian, kindergarten is often the first key setting where they can learn the language. The programme aims to support children’s linguistic integration and the development of the skills necessary for everyday communication.

The programme was developed by the joint effort of speech-language therapists and kindergarten teachers. The sessions focus primarily on developing listening comprehension and speaking skills, using playful methods appropriate for the children’s age group.

You can find more information on the programme in Hungarian here:

This award is a testament to the many years of work our teachers have put into this complex programme!

We would like to thank Dr. Kajdi Alexandra (lecturer at the Department of Hungarian as a Foreign Language at ELTE BTK) for mentoring the programme from the very beginning, and Tóthné Mangó Csilla (speech-language therapist at the Napvirág Kindergarten) for making the development of the Hungarian as a Foreign Language programme at the Kindergartens of Józsefváros a task of high priority.

We believe that supporting children from foreign backgrounds and their families is a shared goal from which everyone benefits.
