General parking information and parking areas for non-residents

In Józsefváros, there are currently three parking tariff zones in terms of parking hourly rates.

Tariff zone A: 600 Ft/hour Operating hours on working days: 08.00-22.00 (max. waiting time: 3 hours)

Múzeum krt. – Rákóczi út – Luther utca – János Pál Pápa tér- Nagyfuvaros utca- Mátyás tér (between József utca and Tavaszmező utca) – Tavaszmező utca – Koszorú utca – Baross utca 96. – Szigony utca – Üllői út, including the bordering streets and squares.

Tariff zone B: 450 Ft/ hour Operating hours on working days 08.00-20.00 (max. waiting time: 3 hours)

Luther utca-II. Százados út waiting zone: The area bounded by Kerepesi út – Hungária krt – Salgótarjáni utca – Asztalos Sándor utca, including the bordering streets and squares.

Zone start signs

Parking is only allowed in the above zones upon payment of a parking fee or upon possession of a parking permit. The parking fee can be paid by purchasing a parking ticket from the parking ticket machines located in the parking zones by inserting coins or by mobile parking initiated from a mobile phone via the National Mobile Payment System.

Vehicles equipped with distinctive signs, registered vehicles of the residents of Józsefváros with a permanent registered address, vehicles with a city police parking permit, vehicles of health and social care providers with a health care parking permit may park without paying a parking fee.

Surcharges and complaints related to parking in Józsefváros

Municipalities operating public parking spaces have the right to charge fees and surcharges, which must be paid by the motorist using the parking space.

Act I of 1988 on Road Transport:

Article 15 (3) The manager of a public road may impose a fee and a surcharge on parking places established or designated on public roads or on public areas outside the public road.

(4) The user shall be responsible for the payment of the fees and surcharges specified in paragraph (1) and in Article 33(2).

(5) If the fee specified in paragraph (3) has not been paid, the road manager or the economic entity entrusted by them under an agreement shall post a notice of default within 60 days of the date of unauthorised use of the road in the parking place or designated waiting place.

If the customer fails to pay the surcharge within the deadline, the JGK Zrt. Parking Directorate has the right to enforce the claim, including by legal action, the cost of which shall be borne by the customer.

Please pay the surcharge within 15 calendar days from the date of its imposition, as from the 16th day the amount of the surcharge will increase (by virtue of the law, according to the formula described therein). Any delay of more than 60 days will result in additional charges being added to the surcharge.

The obligation to pay the fee and the surcharge shall expire after one year. Interest on late payment of the fee and the surcharge cannot be claimed, but the additional costs associated with the parking operator’s surcharge can.

Enforcement costs include in particular the postal and administrative costs of payment notices, the cost of obtaining information from the vehicle register, any lawyer’s fees and the cost of any court proceedings, which can range from a few thousand forints to tens of thousands of forints.

A surcharge is payable if you park without paying in the area subject to the charge or if you park for more than 5 minutes beyond the paid parking time if you have paid for less than an hour or 15 minutes beyond the parking time if you have paid for one hour or more.

If a staff member surcharges you for an expired ticket, the grace period is calculated from the expiry time of the previous (expired) ticket, not from the time of the check.

From March 24, 2022, our company also offers the possibility to pay the surcharge via SimplePay.

After registering in our customer interface (https://ugyfelablak.jgk.hu/login), you can pay the surcharge by accessing the Parking Surcharge details – Financial details – Payment by credit card page (a Parkolási Pótdíj adatainak megtekintése – Pénzügyi adatok – Bankkártyás fizetés) and using the SimplePay online credit card payment interface.

The surcharge can also be paid by cash transfer order, domestic postal order or bank transfer enclosed with the payment notice.

If the surcharge is not paid via SimplePay, please indicate the payer ID (or document number) and vehicle registration number in the message field.

OUR PARKING SURCHARGE COLLECTION ACCOUNTS:

  • in areas owned by the Józsefváros Municipality: 11784009-22229717 (OTP)
  • in areas owned by the Municipality of Budapest: 11784009-22229724 (OTP)

In public parking spaces owned by the Municipality of Budapest, even those have to pay for parking who have a district resident’s parking permit. For the parking areas within the administrative territory of Józsefváros, but owned by the Municipality of Budapest, we can only accept the parking permits from the residents of Józsefváros in the following places:

  • Baross utca
  • Harminckettesek tere
  • Ludovika tér
  • Üllői út
  • II. János Pál pápa tér
  • Orczy út
  • Luther utca 4.
  • Fiumei út

Residents of the district are not entitled to free parking in the following areas and streets:

  • Baross tér
  • Blaha Lujza tér
  • József körút
  • Múzeum körút
  • Rákóczi tér
  • Rákóczi út
  • Kerepesi út
  • Keleti Railway Station departure and arrival side

We cancel the surcharge in the following cases:

  • if you had a valid parking ticket at the time of the check but did not display it in accordance with the Regulation, or if no more than 10 minutes elapsed between the time the parking ticket became valid and the time of the check, or 5 minutes in the case of a mobile phone parking fee and the time of the check – and the original parking ticket or MOBIL parking fee is subsequently presented to our customer service office,
  • if you have a disabled person’s parking permit, which was only partially visible in the vehicle at the time of the check (and therefore not fully verifiable on the spot for eligibility purposes) and you present it to our customer service.

In no other case can we waive the surcharge.

In particular:

  • if the vehicle has been clearly ticketed for an expired parking ticket,
  • if it is clearly visible that the ID card of the person with reduced mobility is not behind the front windscreen and the car does not bear any sign indicating reduced mobility,
  • if it is clearly visible that the security marking on your ticket is missing or has been altered.

The surcharge imposed can only be canceled if there is no disputed surcharge on the vehicle for which the surcharge has been imposed for more than one month.

Your complaint about a parking surcharge has NO EFFECT on deadlines!

In case you do not agree with our negative response to your parking surcharge complaint, you can take your complaint to the reconciliation body of your permanent address or place of residence, in accordance with Act CLV of 1997 on Consumer Protection, and the reconciliation body will attempt to reach a settlement in the consumer dispute between you and the Józsefváros Public Utilities Ltd.
