At its meeting on 19 October 2023, the Józsefváros Assembly unanimously adopted the new social decree of the Municipality, which provides for new, higher subsidies for the residents of Józsefváros from 15 November.
The aim of the new regulation is to enable more people in need to benefit from the subsidies, which will then provide predictable help from month to month.
To this end, the municipality is introducing a number of new forms of support and has increased the level of several existing subsidies.
In many cases, income thresholds have also been adjusted so that more people can benefit from these grants.
Which subsidies are available?
A central element of the new support scheme is a relatively high level of housing benefit for the most vulnerable families. The amount will be between HUF 30.000 and 50.000 HUF per month, depending on the composition of the household and their level of income. The subsidy is available regardless of the tenure of the housing, so it can be claimed by private and municipal tenants, tenants by courtesy as well as owners.
Other regular income support is available for families caring for a relative at home or for families who have to bear high costs for medicines and medical aids. Some of these allowances were available before, but the new scheme will also provide higher amounts and income limits.
Also new is the possibility to use the aid to cover the cost of regularly purchased medical equipment.
Families with children in need will continue to be eligible for birth, nursery, school enrolment and rent subsidies. A new element will be the support for children attending the Sure Start Children’s Home or the school, which will amount to 5-10 thousand HUF per month.
Another important pillar of the support scheme is the arrears management support, which is flexible enough to encourage payments. A separate action program will be launched to address the situation of municipal tenants with high arrears.
Under the new scheme, the aim of the so-called exceptional municipal assistance is to alleviate crisis situations in the life of individual households through a higher level of ad hoc support. The annual cash support will continue to be available, which will now provide each family in need with up to HUF 70 000 per year.
The one-off HUF 10,000 annual voucher will be replaced by a very easy-to-apply cash allowance of HUF 10,000.
How can you apply for the new benefits?
