The public procurement procedure for Szeszgyár utca and Szeszgyár köz has been closed. The Municipality of Józsefváros will sign the contract with the winning executer on the following week, which means the whole section of Szeszgyár Street will soon be renewed, with a brand new public space between Kőris utca and Visi Imre utca. The public procurement was won by HE-DO Építő Zrt. We will agree with the executor on the construction schedule, who must get the necessary permissions to start the works. The exact start of the construction will be announced on the street with posters and leaflets, but it is also worth subscribing to the RÉV8 newsletter.
What has happened so far in Szeszgyár utca and Szeszgyár köz?
On behalf of the Municipality of Józsefváros, RÉV8 involved the community in the street planning process two times in the spring of 2022, to give their input on what they would like to see in the street and what they would like to do on the future pedestrian zone: relax, play or do sports. The plans were later open to public feedback, where we also received many useful suggestions.

How will Szeszgyár utca look like?
During the design of Szeszgyár Street, the main concern was to make the street more comfortable to walk along, and to make it shadier and greener. We will therefore plant as many trees as the public utilities running underground allow, and the water pipe on the Baross utca side of the street will be relocated to allow planting trees. The current parking on both sides will be only one side, with a tree line and perennial beds on both sides.
Main features of the plans for Szeszgyár utca:
– safe road traffic,
– wider pavements,
– raising intersections to pavement level,
– 36 trees in the soil,
– renewing the paving: paving stones on the pavements, asphalt on the road,
– new street furniture,
– new street lighting.
How will Szeszgyár köz look like?
There are few opportunities for outdoor exercise and recreation in the Orczy district, and we want to improve this by renewing Szeszgyár köz. During the design process, the planner made sure that there would be places to relax, but also to play. And for those who just want to walk through the new promenade, they can walk comfortably along the sides. The design also had to take into account the need to ensure access for businesses operating here. To do this, a ramp will be built on the side from Kőris utca.
Main features of the plans for Szeszgyár köz:
– playful elements: trampoline, climbing wall, basket swing
– shaded seating,
– 20 trees planted in the open ground,
– a meeting place with a wall to draw on and seating made of wooden beams,
– playground made of natural materials,
– transparent, natural design.
The municipality has decided to offer residents discounted parking in the streets under renovation, helping to minimise parking difficulties during the renovation.
