On the morning of 7 January 2026, a red alert (“vörös kód”) came into effect because of extreme cold. During the red alert, the Józsefváros Municipality opened warming shelters. You can read more details here:

The cold period makes life harder for everyone, but for some people even a simple grocery run or picking up medication can be a serious burden. The Józsefváros Municipality therefore provides help between 12 and 16 January 2026 for residents of Józsefváros who have limited mobility, are elderly, or have difficulty getting around, so they do not have to leave their homes in risky conditions during the extreme cold.

Call the Józsefváros Municipality’s toll-free number: 06 80 277 256.
Our colleagues will take your details (name, contact information, address) and what kind of help you need. They then share this information with the volunteer who will assist you. Finally, the volunteer will contact you to agree on the exact details.
When is the toll-free number available?
Monday: 08:00–18:00
Tuesday: 08:00–16:00
Wednesday: 08:00–16:30
Thursday: 08:00–16:00
Friday: 08:00–12:30
Important information
- The assistance itself is free, meaning you do not have to pay for arranging the shopping or picking up medication, but everyone must cover the cost of the groceries and the prescribed medicines themselves.
- We currently provide this assistance during the period of extreme cold, between 12 and 16 January 2026.
