Every year Józsefváros Municipality awards individuals and communities with outstanding merits.
From 2020, we are selecting the winners in two different processes. In one, the residents make the nomination, but the Municipality makes the decision; in the other, the residents make both the nomination and the decision, and the Local Assembly only approves the latter.
Any resident of Józsefváros can nominate for the following awards, but the final proposal will be made by the local government or a jury or committee appointed by the local government based on the nominations received.
Honorary Citizenship
The Honorary citizenship may be awarded to a person of Hungarian or foreign citizenship or a community with national or international recognition for their outstanding work in the district, contributing to the developing reputation of Józsefváros, thus gaining public esteem among the district’s citizens and contributing to the developing reputation of Józsefváros.
Józsefváros Cross of Honor
The “Józsefváros Cross of Honor” can be awarded to a person of Hungarian or foreign citizenship or an organization performing outstanding activities for the benefit of Józsefváros.
For Józsefváros
The “For Józsefváros” award can be given to individuals of Hungarian or foreign citizenship, legal entities, and other bodies without legal personality who perform outstanding activities to develop the social, cultural, cultural, or economic life of the district.
Józsefváros Golden Wreath
The “Józsefváros Golden Wreath ” can be awarded to individuals of Hungarian or foreign citizenship, legal entities, and other bodies without legal personality who have been outstanding industrialists, traders, entrepreneurs, and businessmen in the area of Józsefváros for at least 5 years, do not owe local taxes or any other kind of debt to the Municipality, have no general public debt, and carry out their activities to a high standard and the satisfaction of the public.
Good Sport
The “Good Sport” award can be given to natural persons of Hungarian or foreign citizenship, legal entities, and other bodies without legal personality for outstanding achievements in physical education and sport. ATTENTION! Only the following people/organizations can apply for this award:
- leaders of educational institutions operating in the district,
- leaders of district sports associations and federations,
- leaders of district student sports organizations,
- 20 voters from Józsefváros together
For the Culture of Józsefváros
The “For the Culture of Józsefváros” award can be given to a citizen or community who performs outstanding activities in the field of culture and thus contributes to the diversity of the cultural life and enrichment of Józsefváros.
You can nominate for these awards until midnight on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, through one of the following channels:

For the Communities of Józsefváros
The “For the Communities of Józsefváros” award was also launched in 2020 in recognition of the sacrificial activities for the benefit of Józsefváros carried out by civic and community organizations, individuals and informal communities who have achieved outstanding results in their work for social justice, equality, inclusion, safety and environmental sustainability in Józsefváros.
Any resident of Józsefváros can nominate for this award as well, and the winners will be selected by public vote, in which all residents of Józsefváros can participate. The public voting will begin on June 10, after the nominations have been summed up. If there is a tie in the public vote, the final decision is made by the competent committee of the Municipality.

The final decision on each award is made by the Board of Representatives. The awards are expected to be presented on November 7, 2022, the birthday of Józsefváros.
