Community forum in English for foreigners living in Józsefváros

Józsefváros is home to many people who are not Hungarian citizens. It has the highest number of foreigners in Budapest, around 9,000 people or around 15% of the district’s population. Foreigners living here have a wide range of legal statuses (refugees, residence permit holders, EU citizens) and speak a wide variety of languages, from English to Serbian to Vietnamese.

Since 2019, the Municipality of Józsefváros has paid special attention to making the services of the municipality and important news about the district accessible to foreigners living in the municipality. This is why, for example, the municipality has a special English-language website and why it is also possible to subscribe to an English-language newsletter, where we regularly send news to non-Hungarian residents. The district’s institutions, such as kindergartens and nurseries, also pay special attention to the needs of foreign children and their parents living here. We would like to help foreigners living here learn more about  the municipality as well as the services and opportunities we offer, which we hope will make them feel more a part of our community.

The municipality has organized community receptions in the neighborhoods of Józsefváros and thematic public forums for a long time, but now we are preparing a special event. At the beginning of 2024, we will organize an English-language community forum, where all non-Hungarians living in the district, their families and professionals working with them are all welcome.

When? Wednesday, January 17,  2024 from 5pm to 7pm

Where? Mira intercultural community (Lujza utca 36.)

At the community fórum, Dániel Rádai, Deputy Mayor of Józsefváros responsible for urban development, and Tessza Udvarhelyi, Head of the  Office of Community Participation, will give a short presentation on how the municipality works, what we can do to help foreigners living here and the services available here. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to ask questions, make comments and suggestions.
