Advent events and ice rink

The Municipality of Józsefváros is once again offering free Advent activities for everyone on Horváth Mihály tér every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Christmas. Candle lighting every Sunday at 5 pm. The ice skating rink is open until the end of January.

The Municipality of Józsefváros is organising a traditional fundraising event this year, and is appealing to the community of the district to support the needy members of the district to make the holiday special for them. The fundraiser will put food on the holiday table for those in need whose families struggle to make the holiday season special.

If you live in Józsefváros and are a pensioner or a person receiving pension-like benefits (including benefits from NYUFIG) due to a health impairment – or know someone who is – and you cannot heat your home or cannot provide your own meals or can only provide for yourself with help, please contact the day care facility nearest to where you live.

Apply for the Metropolitan Housing Fee Subsidy! 

The Metropolitan Housing Fee Subsidy can be applied to reduce the cost of district heating or water – sewer – garbage, gas and electricity. One person per household can apply. The subsidy lasts for one year (12 months), but can be claimed continuously, i.e. you have to reapply every year. Applications can be made at any time of the year.

Anyone who has been receiving the Metropolitan Housing Subsidy but now wants to apply for the extended subsidy must submit a new application.

You can also apply if you live in a sublet, if you have a tenancy agreement or if the landlord issues a certificate of occupancy!

Whether you live in a municipality-owned or a privately owned home, you can apply for a carbon monoxide detector from the Municipality of Józsefváros.

Please, if you know of an elderly, lonely person who could be endangered by coldness in their home for any reason, please call 112 or report it to the Municipality of Józsefváros!

The Józsefváros Lifesaving Point will open again this winter 

The Lifesaving Point will be open during the crisis period from 1 December 2024 to 31 March 2025, from 8pm to 8am. The aim of the Lifesaving Point is to provide temporary overnight accommodation for homeless people living on the streets during the coldest winter months.

Information for homeless people

In Józsefváros, four night shelters and five temporary shelters await people living without a roof over the winter. No one has to spend the winter on the streets! Among the operators are the BMSZKI, the Oltalom Foundation, the Menhely Foundation, the Üdvhadsereg and the Missionaries of Love. There are also five day shelters and three soup kitchens to help the most vulnerable.

If you see a homeless person in need of help, call immediately! 

The Menhely Foundation’s Helpline can provide information on all services for homeless people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (e.g. meals, accommodation, laundry facilities, shelters, etc.). If necessary, the dispatching service can also send a street care service or a crisis van to the scene.
